{"id":10582,"date":"2019-07-08T17:47:55","date_gmt":"2019-07-08T15:47:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/phoneenglish.es\/blog\/?p=10582"},"modified":"2021-10-11T09:24:58","modified_gmt":"2021-10-11T07:24:58","slug":"much-many-little-few-a-lot-plenty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/phoneenglish.es\/blog\/2019\/07\/much-many-little-few-a-lot-plenty\/","title":{"rendered":"Much, many, little, few, a lot, plenty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We use quantifiers such as <strong>much, many, little, few, a lot <\/strong>and<strong> plenty<\/strong>\u00a0when we want to give someone information about the\u00a0number of something.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Much<\/strong> can be used\u00a0ONLY with noncount nouns:<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Examples:<\/span><br \/>\nHow much money do you have?<br \/>\nThere isn\u2019t much coffee left.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We can use <strong>a lot of <\/strong>or<strong> lots of<\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0both\u00a0count\u00a0and\u00a0non-count\u00a0nouns:<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Examples:<\/span><br \/>\nWe have\u00a0lots of time.<br \/>\nJerry has\u00a0lots of friends.<br \/>\nThere was a lot of food.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Plenty of<\/strong> is a colloquial form\u00a0which can also be used with both count and non-count nouns:<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Examples:<\/span><br \/>\nWe have\u00a0plenty of time.<br \/>\nJoe has\u00a0plenty of friends.<br \/>\nThere was\u00a0plenty of food.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Many<\/strong> and <strong>a few<\/strong>\u00a0can be used\u00a0ONLY with count nouns:<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Examples:<\/span><br \/>\nShe asked too many questions.<br \/>\nThe crowd was silent for a few minutes after the play ended.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Remember:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We put a noun directly after a quantifier when we talk about members of\u00a0a group in general.<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Examples:<\/span><br \/>\nFew\u00a0snakes\u00a0are dangerous.<br \/>\nYou can learn many things from books.<\/p>\n<p>But if we are talking about members of a\u00a0particular group, we also use\u00a0&#8220;of the&#8221;.<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Examples:<\/span><br \/>\nFew of the\u00a0snakes in this zoo\u00a0are dangerous.<br \/>\nMany of the kids played in the park.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We use quantifiers such as much, many, little, few, a lot and plenty\u00a0when we want to give someone information about the\u00a0number of something. &nbsp; Much can be used\u00a0ONLY with noncount nouns: Examples: How much money do you have?
