They are used in sentences where a subject is compared to a group of objects. We also usually add &#8216;the&#8217; before the superlative adjective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-background has-text-align-center has-primary-color has-accent-background-color\"><strong>Noun (subject) + verb + the + superlative adjective + noun (object).<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two ways to form a superlative adjective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Short Adjectives Superlative<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If the adjective has a consonant + single vowel + consonant spelling, the final consonant must be doubled before adding -est.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>tall \u2192 tallest<\/p><p>Mark is <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>tallest<\/strong> student in the class.<br>big \u2192 biggest<\/p><p>The monster truck is <strong>the biggest<\/strong> car I have ever seen.<br>fast \u2192 fastest<\/p><p>Your horse is <strong>the fastest<\/strong> in the race.<\/p><p>old \u2192 oldest<\/p><p>I am <strong>the oldest<\/strong> in this class.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>For adjectives ending in y, change the y to an i before adding the -est.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>lucky \u2192 luckiest<\/p><p>I am <strong>the luckiest<\/strong> man alive.<br>tidy \u2192 tidiest<\/p><p>My bedroom is <strong>the tidiest<\/strong> room in the house.<br>happy \u2192 happiest<\/p><p>You make me <strong>the happiest<\/strong> person in the world.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If the adjective ends in -e, just add -st.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>late \u2192 the latest<\/p><p>She arrived <strong>the latest<\/strong>.<br>large \u2192 the largest<\/p><p>I caught <strong>the largest <\/strong>fish I have ever seen.<br>strange \u2192 the strangest<\/p><p>I had <strong>the strangest<\/strong> dream last night.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Long Adjectives Superlative<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Adjectives with three or more syllables form the superlative by putting <strong>&#8220;most&#8221;<\/strong> in front.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>2-syllable adjectives not ending in -y<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>modern \u2192 most modern <\/p><p>I bought <strong>the most modern<\/strong> house in the neighborhood.<br>pleasant \u2192 most pleasant<\/p><p>This perfume has <strong>the most pleasant<\/strong> smell<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>All adjectives of 3 or more syllables, add &#8220;most&#8221; before the adjective.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>expensive \u2192 most expensive<\/p><p>She got <strong>the most expensive<\/strong> mobile phone.<br>intelligent \u2192 most intelligent<\/p><p>She is <strong>the most intelligent<\/strong> in her class.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The following adjectives are exception to the previously mentioned rules because they have irregular forms.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>less \u2192 the least<\/p><p>I got <strong>the least<\/strong> number of mistakes in the exam.<br>good \u2192 the best<\/p><p>I have <strong>the best<\/strong> mother in the world.<br>bad \u2192 the worst<\/p><p><strong>The worst<\/strong> food I&#8217;ve ever tried is fried insects.<br>far \u2192 the farthest\/furthest<\/p><p>This is <strong>the furthest<\/strong> I can go.
