Some qualities can vary in intensity or &#8220;grade&#8221; (gradable) and other qualities cannot vary in intensity or grade (non-gradable).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Gradable Adjectives<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Adjectives that can be made stronger, weaker, or altered by using &#8220;grading adverbs&#8221; such as a little, dreadfully, extremely, fairly, hugely, immensely, intensely, rather, reasonably, slightly, unusually, very.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>He was <strong>quite angry<\/strong> when he saw me.<br>The movie was <strong>really funny<\/strong>!<br>It is <strong>extremely hot<\/strong> in Spain in the summer.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A gradable adjective can have comparative and superlative forms.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>He said that Russia was a <strong>little cold<\/strong> and China was <strong>rather cold<\/strong>. But Canada was <strong>the coldest<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Non-Gradable Adjectives<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Adjectives that describe qualities that are completely present or completely absent. These adjectives describe absolute qualities. To make them stronger, we have to use modifiers like absolutely, totally or completely.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The game was <strong>absolutely<\/strong> amazing!<br>The dress is <strong>absolutely<\/strong> perfect!<br>Their house was <strong>totally<\/strong> destroyed by the typhoon.<br>My work is <strong>completely<\/strong> finished.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Adjectives like <strong>amazing<\/strong>, <strong>awful<\/strong>, and <strong>boiling<\/strong> are also considered non-gradable. They already contain the idea of &#8216;very&#8217; in their meanings. If we want to make extreme adjectives stronger, we add absolutely or really:<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The match was absolutely amazing!<br>After 32 hours of traveling, they were absolutely exhausted.<br>The traffic was really awful.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Non-gradable adjectives can also be used alone.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>It is <strong>freezing<\/strong> outside.<br>The cat was <strong>dead<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Adjectives describe qualities (characteristics) of nouns.
