Podemos hablar o escribir expresando seguridad, voluntad, obligaci\u00f3n, necesidad, habilidad, etc. Hoy conoceremos los verbos en ingl\u00e9s que nos ayudan a manifestar esos sentimientos de forma adecuada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Los verbos modales en ingl\u00e9s pueden resultar un poco dif\u00edciles ya que dependiendo del contexto pueden cambiar el sentido de la oraci\u00f3n completamente. <strong>Son verbos especiales que se comportan de manera irregular.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los <em>modal verbs<\/em> son diferentes de los verbos que usamos en la cotidianidad&nbsp; como trabajar, jugar, visitar, dormir, entre otros. <strong>Los modales dan informaci\u00f3n adicional <\/strong>sobre la funci\u00f3n del verbo principal y tienen una gran variedad de funciones comunicativas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los principales <em>modal verbs<\/em> en ingl\u00e9s son los siguientes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table class=\"has-subtle-light-gray-background-color has-fixed-layout has-background\"><tbody><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong><em>Can<\/em><\/strong><\/td><td>Poder<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong><em>Could&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/td><td>Podr\u00eda<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong><em>May&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/td><td>Puede que&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong><em>Might&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/td><td>Podr\u00eda<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong><em>Will<\/em><\/strong><\/td><td>Ser\u00e1<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong><em>Would<\/em><\/strong><\/td><td>Ser\u00eda<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong><em>Must<\/em><\/strong><\/td><td>Debe<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong><em>Shall<\/em><\/strong><\/td><td>Deber\u00e1<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong><em>Should<\/em><\/strong><\/td><td>Deber\u00eda<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong><em>Ought to<\/em><\/strong><\/td><td>Deber\u00eda<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Antes de adentrarnos a este tema y explicarte cada uno de ellos, es importante que tengas una idea previa de los<a href=\"https:\/\/phoneenglish.es\/blog\/2020\/11\/tiempos-verbales-en-ingles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> tiempos verbales en ingl\u00e9s<\/a> y de los <a href=\"https:\/\/phoneenglish.es\/blog\/2020\/09\/verbos-irregulares-en-ingles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">verbos irregulares<\/a>. Si ya manejas un poco estos temas, los <em>modal verbs <\/em>ser\u00e1n mucho m\u00e1s faciles de entender y podr\u00e1s a\u00f1adirlos a tus conversaciones diarias sin mucho esfuerzo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-usos-de-los-modal-verbs\"><strong>Usos de los <em>modal verbs<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ya te hemos hecho una lista de los principales verbos modales en ingl\u00e9s. Ahora, \u00bftienes idea de cu\u00e1ndo usarlos correctamente? <strong>Hay ocho usos principales:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Permiso<\/li><li>Capacidad<\/li><li>Obligaci\u00f3n<\/li><li>Prohibici\u00f3n<\/li><li>Necesidad<\/li><li>Consejo<\/li><li>Posibilidad<\/li><li>Probabilidad<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>De acuerdo a los usos mencionados anteriormente puedes ver como <strong>los <em>modal verbs<\/em> aportan un mayor significado a las oraciones.<\/strong> Gracias a ellos podemos expresar lo que deseamos de una manera m\u00e1s espec\u00edfica.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Los verbos modales buscan darle un significado a las acciones de la oraci\u00f3n. <\/strong>Es importante que recuerdes que son verbos auxiliares lo que significa que no se conjugan por lo tanto, tienen las siguientes caracter\u00edsticas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>No tienen gerundio&nbsp;<\/li><li>No tienen infinitivo&nbsp;<\/li><li>No tienen participio.&nbsp;<\/li><li>No usan una &#8216;s&#8217; para la tercera persona del singular.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahora que ya sabes para qu\u00e9 sirven los verbos modales, vamos a profundizar en cada uno de ellos para que sepas su uso espec\u00edfico y correcto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-formas-de-los-modal-verbs\">Formas de los <em>modal verbs<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Si has le\u00eddo nuestros art\u00edculos previos, debes saber que <strong>existen diferentes formas para estructurar cualquier oraci\u00f3n: positiva, negativa e interrogativa.<\/strong> Los verbos modales en ingl\u00e9s tambi\u00e9n se estructuran de la misma manera. A continuaci\u00f3n te mostramos cada uno de ellos, sus usos y ejemplos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-can\"><em>Can<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>El verbo modal <em>can<\/em> es uno de los m\u00e1s usados en ingl\u00e9s y lo usamos para expresar:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>una posibilidad<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>una habilidad<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>solicitar permiso. <\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>De acuerdo al contexto, la interpretaci\u00f3n variar\u00e1. Veamos algunos ejemplos:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>She <strong>can<\/strong> sing.<\/em> \/ Ella puede cantar (habilidad)<\/p><p><em><strong>Can <\/strong>I ask you something? <\/em>\/ \u00bfPuedo pedirte algo? (permiso)<\/p><p><em>Smoking <strong>can<\/strong> cause lung cancer. <\/em>\/ Fumar puede causar c\u00e1ncer de pulm\u00f3n (posibilidad)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-can-positive-form-forma-positiva\"><em>Can: positive form<\/em> \/ Forma positiva<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Para crear oraciones positivas con el verbo modal <em>can<\/em>, <strong>solo debemos tener en cuenta el siguiente orden<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-background-color has-accent-background-color has-text-color has-background\"><strong><em>SUBJECT + CAN + INFINITIVE + COMPLEMENT<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>She <strong>can<\/strong> take the train to Barcelona. \/ <\/em>Ella puede tomar el tren a Barcelona.&nbsp;<\/p><p><em>He <strong>can<\/strong> play the piano. \/ <\/em>\u00c9l puede tocar el piano.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-can-negative-form-forma-negativa\"><em>Can: negative form<\/em> \/ Forma negativa<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>La forma negativa de los <em>modal verbs<\/em> no necesitan de un auxiliar, ya que el verbo en s\u00ed mismo es usado para esos fines. <strong>La forma negativa de <em>can <\/em>es <em>can\u2019t<\/em> <\/strong>y para estructurar una oraci\u00f3n, mantenemos el orden anterior:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-background-color has-accent-background-color has-text-color has-background\"><strong><em>SUBJECT + CAN\u2019T + INFINITIVE + COMPLEMENT<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>I <strong>can\u2019t<\/strong> swim. \/ <\/em>No puedo nadar.&nbsp;<\/p><p><em>We <strong>can\u2019t <\/strong>go to the party. \/ <\/em>No podemos ir a la fiesta.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Si bien la negaci\u00f3n <em>can\u2019t <\/em>es la m\u00e1s com\u00fan, podemo usar <em>cannot<\/em> <\/strong>(can + not) para contextos formales o cuando deseamos hacer enfasis en alguna cosa:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>She <strong>cannot<\/strong> understand why he behaves like that. \/ <\/em>Ella no puede entender porqu\u00e9 \u00e9l se comporta as\u00ed.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-78cbd51b-c8f7-4d32-badb-9856e2556b84\"><em>Can: interrogative form<\/em> \/ Forma interrogativa<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Para realizar interrogaciones con <em>can<\/em> solo debemos intercambiar la posici\u00f3n con el sujeto para dejar el verbo modal de primero:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-background-color has-accent-background-color has-text-color has-background\"><strong><em>CAN \/ CAN\u2019T + SUBJECT + INFINITIVE + COMPLEMENT<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em><strong>Can <\/strong>Sheyla speak Spanish? <\/em>\/ \u00bfSheyla puede hablar espa\u00f1ol?<\/p><p><em><strong>Can&#8217;t<\/strong> you ask for another day off? <\/em>\/ \u00bfNo puedes pedir otro d\u00eda libre?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Otra forma de&nbsp; usar <em>can \/ can\u2019t<\/em> en interrogaciones <strong>es al final de una declaraci\u00f3n<\/strong> como una <em>question tag<\/em>. Est\u00e1s entendiendo el art\u00edculo, \u00bfverdad?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>Laura <\/em><strong><em>can<\/em><\/strong><em> speak Italian, <\/em><strong><em>can\u2019t <\/em><\/strong><em>she? <\/em>\/ Laura puede hablar italiano, \u00bfno?<\/p><p><em>You <\/em><strong><em>can\u2019t<\/em><\/strong><em> take photos inside the church, <\/em><strong><em>can<\/em><\/strong><em> you? \/ <\/em>No puedes sacar fotos dentro de la iglesia, \u00bfverdad?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-could\"><strong><em>Could<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>El verbo modal <em>could <\/em>se usa en los siguientes contextos: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>para expresar la <strong>posibilidad <\/strong>de que ocurra algo<\/li><li>para contar una <strong>habilidad pasada<\/strong><\/li><li>para <strong>pedir algo<\/strong> educadamente<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Veamos algunos ejemplos:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>When I was 6 years old I <strong>could<\/strong> jump high. <\/em>\/ Cuando ten\u00eda 6 a\u00f1os pod\u00eda saltar alto. (Habilidad pasada)<\/p><p><em><strong>Could<\/strong> you please forward me that email?<\/em> \/ \u00bfPodr\u00eda reenviarme ese email por favor? (Pedir algo educadamente)<\/p><p><em>They <strong>could<\/strong> come tomorrow!<\/em> \/ \u00a1Podr\u00edan venir ma\u00f1ana! <\/p><p><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-could-positive-form-forma-positiva\"><em>Could: positive form<\/em> \/ Forma positiva<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Al igual que con el verbo modal can, <em>could <\/em><strong>se mantiene en la misma posici\u00f3n<\/strong> a la hora de estructurar cualquier frase:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-background-color has-accent-background-color has-text-color has-background\"><strong><em>SUBJECT + COULD + INFINITIVE + COMPLEMENT<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>We <\/em><strong><em>could<\/em><\/strong><em> have lunch tomorrow. \/ <\/em>Podr\u00edamos almorzar ma\u00f1ana.<\/p><p><em>It <\/em><strong><em>could<\/em><\/strong><em> be fantastic. \/ <\/em>Podr\u00eda ser fant\u00e1stico.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-could-negative-form-forma-negativa\"><em>Could: negative form<\/em> \/ Forma negativa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>La forma negativa de <em>could<\/em> es <em>couldn\u2019t<\/em><\/strong>.
