Simply put, it tells us <strong>HOW<\/strong> something happens. The rule is simple for regular adverbs as we often only need to add -ly to the end of an adjective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Irregular adverbs<\/strong> on the other hand, <strong>disregard standard English spelling rules<\/strong>. Hence, they have to be <strong>memorized<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some common irregular adverbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; Adjectives<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Irregular Adverbs<\/strong><\/td><td><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; good<\/td><td>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; well<\/td><td>The show went well.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; fast<\/td><td>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; fast<\/td><td>She drives too fast.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; hard<\/td><td>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; hard<\/td><td>He studied hard for the exam<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; late<\/td><td>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; late<\/td><td>They arrived late at the party.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; early<\/td><td>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; early<\/td><td>The package arrived early.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; daily<\/td><td>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; daily<\/td><td>New articles are published daily.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hard vs Hardly<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She works<strong> hard<\/strong> because she&#8217;s looking forward for a promotion. &#8211;<strong> correct<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She works <strong>hardly <\/strong>because she&#8217;s looking forward for a promotion. &#8211; <strong>incorrect <\/strong>(Hardly means <strong>&#8220;almost never&#8221;<\/strong>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we say, &#8220;She works hardly,&#8221; this means she hardly ever&nbsp; or rarely works which is opposite from the original context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Late vs Lately<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I came home <strong>late.<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>correct<\/strong> (To arrive home later than the expected time or very late at night.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I came home <strong>lately.<\/strong> &#8211;<strong> incorrect <\/strong>(Lately means <strong>&#8220;recently&#8221;<\/strong>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Late<\/strong> is both an <strong>adjective<\/strong> and <strong>an adverb<\/strong> while <strong>&#8216;lately&#8217;<\/strong> is only an<strong> adverb of time<\/strong> which means recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Good vs. Well<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Good<\/strong> is an <strong>adjective<\/strong>. <strong>Well<\/strong> is the<strong> adverb<\/strong> of good which describes how something is being done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I did <strong>good<\/strong> in my interview. &#8211; <strong>incorrect<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I did <strong>well<\/strong> in my interview. &#8211;<strong> correct<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We use an adverb to express a significant description to a verb, an adjective or another adverb.
