En este caso, las palabras <em>both, either, neither,<\/em> son importantes ya que <strong>son part\u00edculas que se utilizan constantemente para hacer referencia a dos cosas. <\/strong>En este art\u00edculo conocer\u00e1s sus usos y diferencias a trav\u00e9s de su explicaci\u00f3n gramatical y ejemplos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Lo primero que debemos saber es \u00bfqu\u00e9 significan? Cualquiera.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Neither<\/em><\/strong> \/ Ninguno de los dos<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>Neither<\/em><\/strong><em> of us was having fun.<\/em> \/ Ninguno de los dos (de nosotros) se estaba divirtiendo.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Como podr\u00e1s notar en los ejemplos, el uso de <em>both, either, neither,<\/em> es fundamental ya que se usan en <strong>expresiones contidianas. <\/strong>Veamos cada uno de ellos por separado para entender c\u00f3mo usarlos de forma adecuada.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-both-usos-gram-tica-y-ejemplos\"><strong><em>Both<\/em>: usos, gram\u00e1tica y ejemplos<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>En ingl\u00e9s se usa el t\u00e9rmino<em> both <\/em>principalmente para hacer referencia a <strong>dos personas o dos cosas juntas.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>Both<\/em><\/strong><em> those chairs are occupied. <\/em>\/ Ambas sillas est\u00e1n ocupadas.<\/p><p><em>Are <\/em><strong><em>both<\/em><\/strong><em> your sisters going to Germany?<\/em> \/ \u00bfTus dos hermanas van a Alemania?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Both: <\/em>posici\u00f3n correcta<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Si <em>both<\/em> se refiere al sujeto de una cl\u00e1usula, podemos usarlo en la posici\u00f3n media normal para adverbios, entre el sujeto y el verbo principal, despu\u00e9s de un verbo modal o el primer verbo auxiliar, o despu\u00e9s de ser como verbo principal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Entre el sujeto y el verbo principal:<em> They <strong>both<\/strong> wanted to sell the car. <\/em>\/ Ambos quer\u00edan vender el coche.\u00a0<\/p><p>Despu\u00e9s del primer verbo auxiliar o modal:<em> They had <strong>both<\/strong> been refused entry to the event. <\/em>\/ A ambos se les hab\u00eda negado la entrada al evento.<\/p><p>Despu\u00e9s del verbo <strong><em>be <\/em><\/strong>como verbo principal: <em>They were<strong> both<\/strong> very nice, and kind to me.<\/em> \/ Ambos fueron muy agradables y amables conmigo.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Both <\/em>con sustantivos<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Cuando usamos <em>both <\/em>antes de un determinante, por ejemplo, <em>a\/an,<\/em> <em>the<\/em>, <em>her, his<\/em> + sustantivo, se pueden usar <em>both <\/em>de la siguiente manera:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>He knew<\/em><strong><em> both <\/em><\/strong><em>my children. <\/em>\/ Conoc\u00eda a mis dos class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Podemos usar <em>both<\/em> antes de un sustantivo:<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>This button starts <\/em><strong><em>both<\/em><\/strong><em> engines at the same time.<\/em> \/ Este bot\u00f3n enciende ambos motores al mismo tiempo.<\/p><p><em>Are <\/em><strong><em>both<\/em><\/strong><em> dogs female?<\/em> \/ \u00bfAmbos perros son hembras?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Both <\/em>con pronombres<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Pronoum + both: <\/em>podemos usar <em>both <\/em>despu\u00e9s de un pronombre de sujeto o de un pronombre de objeto:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>We<\/em><strong><em> both<\/em><\/strong><em> prefer romantic movies. <\/em>\/ Ambos preferimos las pel\u00edculas rom\u00e1nticas.<\/p><p><em>Let\u2019s open them<\/em><strong><em> both <\/em><\/strong><em>now.<\/em> \/ Abramos ambos ahora.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Both + of +<\/em> pronombre de objeto<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Cuando usamos el t\u00e9rmino <em>both <\/em>como parte de un sujeto u objeto que es un pronombre, puede ir seguido de <em>of<\/em> m\u00e1s un pronombre de objeto:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>Both <\/em><\/strong><em>of us dislike going to the cinema.<\/em> \/ A los dos no nos gusta ir al cine.<\/p><p><em>He looked at <\/em><strong><em>both<\/em><\/strong><em> of us. <\/em>\/ Nos mir\u00f3 a los dos.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Usualmente se usa <em>both of <\/em>+ el pronombre de objeto despu\u00e9s de las preposiciones:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>She shouted at <strong>both of<\/strong> them<\/em>. \/ Ella les grit\u00f3 a los dos.<\/p><p><em>That\u2019ll be so amazing for <strong>both of<\/strong> you.<\/em> \/  Eso ser\u00e1 incre\u00edble para los dos.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Both <\/em>como pronombre<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Podemos usar <em>both<\/em> solo como pronombre:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>There are two hostels in the city. <strong>Both<\/strong> are expensive.<\/em> \/&nbsp; Hay dos albergues en la ciudad. Ambos son caros.<\/p><p><em>Applicants for this course must speak Spanish or French, preferably <strong>both.<\/strong><\/em> \/&nbsp; Los solicitantes de este curso deben hablar espa\u00f1ol o franc\u00e9s, preferiblemente ambos.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em><strong>Both <\/strong><\/em><strong>como expresi\u00f3n de enlace<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Usamos <em>both<\/em> para enfatizar el v\u00ednculo entre dos cosas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em><strong>Both<\/strong> France and Portugal are my favorite.<\/em> \/ Tanto Francia como Portugal son mis favoritos.<\/p><p><em>She played <strong>both <\/strong>Volleyball and Soccer when she was a student.<\/em> \/ Jug\u00f3 al voleibol y f\u00fatbol cuando era estudiante.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-either-usos-gram-tica-y-ejemplos\"><strong><em>Either:<\/em><\/strong> u<strong>sos, gram\u00e1tica y ejemplos<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Either<\/em> en ingl\u00e9s puede funcionar como un determinante, un pronombre, un adverbio o una conjunci\u00f3n. Veamos sus usos:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Either<\/em> como determinante<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Podemos usar <em>either<\/em> como determinante antes de un sustantivo para hablar de dos opciones o posibilidades. El sustantivo que sigue a cualquiera debe ser un sustantivo contable singular:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>I\u2019m not too fond of <strong>either<\/strong> shirt. <\/em>\/ No me gusta mucho ninguna de las dos camisas.<\/p><p><em><strong>Either<\/strong> restaurant will be okay, as they both serve vegan food.<\/em> \/ Cualquiera de los dos restaurantes estar\u00e1 bien, ya que ambos sirven comida vegana.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Either of<\/em><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Either <\/em>debe ir seguido de <em>of<\/em> si lo usamos antes de <em>the, these, those <\/em>o posesivos (<em>my, your)<\/em> con un sustantivo plural:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>Either of<\/em><\/strong> the children can come with us. \/ Cualquiera de los ni\u00f1os puede venir con nosotros.<\/p><p><em>I don\u2019t want <\/em><strong><em>either of<\/em><\/strong><em> my parents to know I\u2019ve failed the exam.<\/em> \/\u00a0 No quiero que ninguno de mis padres sepa que suspend\u00ed el examen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Either<\/em> como \u201cboth\u201d<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Si usamos <em>either <\/em>como determinante antes de un sustantivo contable singular puede significar <em>both<\/em>, es decir, ambos:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>There were restaurants on <\/em><strong><em>either<\/em><\/strong><em> side of the street.<\/em> \/ Hab\u00eda restaurantes a ambos lados de la calle.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Either<\/em> como pronombre&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Podemos usar <em>either <\/em>como pronombre as\u00ed como mostramos en los siguientes ejemplos:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>Which pants do you like, the blue one or the black one? &#8211; I don&#8217;t like <strong>either<\/strong><\/em>. \/ \u00bfQu\u00e9 pantal\u00f3n te gusta, el azul o el negro? A mi tampoco me gusta.<\/p><p><em>What do you want to drink? Coffee or tea? &#8211; <strong>Either.<\/strong> It doesn&#8217;t matter.<\/em>\u00a0\/ \u00bfQu\u00e9 quieres beber? \u00bfCaf\u00e9 o t\u00e9? Cualquiera. No importa.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em style=\"font-weight: bold\">Either <\/em><b>como adverbio&nbsp;<\/b><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Usamos <em>either<\/em> como adverbio luego de un verbo negativo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>It was a great hotel and it wasn&#8217;t expensive<strong> either. <\/strong><\/em>\/ Era un gran hotel y tampoco era caro.<\/p><p><em>He doesn&#8217;t like chocolate and he doesn&#8217;t like Vanilla <strong>either. <\/strong><\/em>\/&nbsp; No le gusta el chocolate y tampoco le gusta la vainilla.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Either<\/em> como conjunci\u00f3n<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Either<\/em> como conjunci\u00f3n es usado para conectar dos ideas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em><strong>Either<\/strong> we go by bus or we rent a car. Which do you prefer? <\/em>\/ O vamos en autob\u00fas o alquilamos un coche. \u00bfQu\u00e9 prefieres?<\/p><p><em><strong>Either <\/strong>we eat hamburger or pizza. You pick.<\/em> \/ O comemos hamburguesas o pizza. T\u00fa eliges<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Como podr\u00e1s ir notando, <em>both, either, neither, <\/em>son esenciales para tener cualquier tipo de conversaci\u00f3n. Se usan constantemente en conversaciones cotidianas y es por esto que debes saber c\u00f3mo usarlos eficientemente. A continuaci\u00f3n, veamos <em>neither.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-neither-usos-gram-tica-y-ejemplos\"><em>Neither: <\/em><strong>usos, gram\u00e1tica y ejemplos<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Neither<\/em> nos permite hacer una <strong>afirmaci\u00f3n negativa <\/strong>sobre dos personas o cosas al mismo tiempo. Neither suele ir antes de los sustantivos contables en singular. Lo usamos para decir &#8216;tampoco&#8217; en relaci\u00f3n con dos cosas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em><strong>Neither <\/strong>parent came to meet the director.<\/em> \/ Ninguno de los padres vino a conocer al director.<\/p><p><em><strong>Neither <\/strong>dress fitted me. \/<\/em> Ninguno de los vestidos me quedaba bien.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Usamos <em>neither of <\/em>delante de pronombres y sustantivos contables plurales que tienen un determinante (<em>my <\/em>\/ m\u00edo, <em>his <\/em>\/ suyo, <em>the <\/em>\/ el) delante de ellos:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>Neither of<\/em><\/strong><em> us went to the event.<\/em> \/ Ninguno de nosotros fue al evento.<\/p><p><strong><em>Neither of<\/em><\/strong><em> the welcome cards was suitable<\/em>. \/ Ninguna de las tarjetas de bienvenida era adecuada.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahora, en un contexto formal se usa <em>neither of<\/em> con un verbo en singular cuando es el sujeto. Sin embargo, cuando estamos hablando informalmente, la gente suele usar verbos en plural:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em><strong>Neither of<\/strong> my best friends was near. <\/em>\/ Ninguno de mis mejores amigos estaba cerca.<\/p><p><em><strong>Neither of<\/strong> my sisters was interested in going to university.<\/em> \/ Ninguna de mis hermanas estaba interesada en ir a la universidad.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Neither<\/em><\/strong>\u2026&nbsp;<strong><em>nor<\/em><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Podemos usar <em>neither <\/em>como conjunci\u00f3n con <em>nor<\/em> (ni). Conecta dos o m\u00e1s alternativas negativas. Esto puede sonar formal al hablar:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong><em>Neither <\/em><\/strong><em>Chlo\u00e9 <\/em><strong><em>nor<\/em><\/strong><em> her husband mentioned anything about moving house. <\/em>\/ Ni Chlo\u00e9 ni su esposo mencionaron nada sobre mudarse de casa.<\/p><p><strong><em>Neither<\/em><\/strong><em> England <\/em><strong><em>nor<\/em><\/strong><em> France got to the finals. <\/em>\/ Ni Inglaterra ni Francia llegaron a la final.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-errores-t-picos\">Errores t\u00edpicos<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Antes de finalizar el art\u00edculo<em> <\/em>te dejamos errores t\u00edpicos que suceden al usar <em>both, either, neither. <\/em>\u00a1No los cometas t\u00fa!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Debes usar <em>neither<\/em> en vez de <em>none<\/em> cuando estamos hablando de dos personas o cosas:<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>Radio and television are different.<\/em> <em><strong>Neither <\/strong>of them should replace the other. <\/em>\/ La radio y la televisi\u00f3n son diferentes.
