When we want to say what we like or dislike, we use the verbs love<\/strong>, like <\/strong>and hate<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The verbs Like\/Love\/Hate<\/strong> is usually followed by a gerund<\/strong> (verb + –<\/em>ing). We use a gerund after these verbs when the meaning is general<\/strong> or when we talk about the action<\/strong> or the experience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sentence structure:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subject + Like\/Love\/Hate + gerund [verb + -ing] + the rest of the sentence<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes, we use to-infinitive<\/strong> after like<\/em>, love<\/em>, and hate<\/em> if we are talking about a particular time<\/strong> or situation<\/strong> or to express habits or choices<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like reading books. – (You like reading books in general.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like to read books. – (Reading books is an activity that you choose to do.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
