What is an abstract noun?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

An abstract noun<\/strong> is a type of noun that cannot be recognized<\/strong> using the five senses<\/strong>. These are nouns that you cannot see, smell, taste, hear nor touch. They usually refer to feelings<\/strong> or emotions<\/strong>, states<\/strong>, ideas<\/strong>, events <\/strong>and qualities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Type of Abstract Nouns<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qualities<\/td>honesty, courage, beauty<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Abstract nouns can be countable<\/strong> or uncountable<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a bad experience<\/em>. (\u201cexperience\u201d is used as a countable noun)<\/td><\/tr>
I have enough experience<\/em> to do the job. (\u201cexperience\u201d is used as an uncountable noun)<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Many common abstract nouns can be formed by adding a suffix<\/strong> (-ity, -tion, -ment etc.) to nouns.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Form:<\/strong> noun + suffix = abstract noun<\/p>\n\n\n\n
