The way words are placed or arranged in a sentence is called word order.<\/strong> It is important to place these words correctly in order to express your thoughts and ideas. The word order also affects the meaning of a sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an English sentence, the basic word order<\/strong> is Subject<\/mark> + <\/mark>Verb<\/mark> + <\/mark>Object<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Example<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subject<\/strong><\/td>Verb<\/strong><\/td>Object<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
Maria<\/mark><\/td>drinks<\/mark><\/td>wine.<\/mark><\/td><\/tr>
<\/mark>I<\/mark><\/td>play<\/mark><\/td>hockey.<\/mark><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

When we want to tell more about the verb, we use adverbs. If more than one adverb is used, we have to follow the order of adverbs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Structure:
<\/strong>Subject + Verb + Object + Adverb Of Place + Adverb Of Time<\/mark>
<\/mark>Place<\/strong> usually comes before Time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subject<\/strong><\/td>Verb<\/strong><\/td>Object<\/strong><\/td>Place<\/strong><\/td>Time<\/strong><\/td><\/tr>
She<\/mark><\/td> sees<\/mark><\/td>Alberto<\/mark><\/td>at the gym<\/mark><\/td>every morning.<\/mark><\/td><\/tr>
We<\/mark><\/td>arrived<\/mark><\/td><\/td>home<\/mark><\/td>at 9 o’clock.<\/mark><\/td><\/tr>
I<\/mark><\/td>walk<\/mark><\/td><\/td>to school<\/mark><\/td>every morning.<\/mark><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The adverb of time<\/strong> can also be used at the beginning of a sentence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every Sunday<\/mark>, he<\/mark> goes<\/mark> to the park<\/mark>.<\/td><\/tr>
Today<\/mark>, I\u2019m<\/mark> quitting<\/mark> my job<\/mark>.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>
Note: Time is placed at the beginning of the sentence but the rest of the sentence follows the word order (S+V+O).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Tips:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Place<\/strong> or Time<\/strong> should never<\/strong> be placed between<\/strong> the verb<\/strong> and the object<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
