{"id":6125,"date":"2017-03-07T15:35:35","date_gmt":"2017-03-07T13:35:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/phoneenglish.es\/blog\/?p=6125"},"modified":"2021-10-11T09:28:05","modified_gmt":"2021-10-11T07:28:05","slug":"present-perfect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/phoneenglish.es\/blog\/2017\/03\/present-perfect\/","title":{"rendered":"Present Perfect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Present \u00a0Perfect<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>FORM : <strong>\u00a0<em>has\/have<\/em><\/strong> + \u00a0<strong>past participle<\/strong> of the verb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Use<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>for something that started in the <strong>past <\/strong>and <strong>continues <\/strong>in the <strong>present<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They<strong>\u2019ve known <\/strong>each other\u00a0for nearly twelve years.<br \/>\nHe <strong>has lived<\/strong> in Madrid all his life.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>for something we have done <strong>several times<\/strong> in the <strong>past<\/strong> and <strong>continue<\/strong> to do:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I<strong>\u2019ve studied<\/strong>\u00a0English ever since I was a eight.<br \/>\nHe <strong>has traveled<\/strong>\u00a0to different countries and he is traveling again soon.<\/p>\n<p>We often use a clause with <strong><em>since <\/em><\/strong>to show <strong>when <\/strong>something <strong>started <\/strong>in the past:<br \/>\nI <strong>have worked<\/strong> here since I left school.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>when we are talking about our <strong>experience up to the present<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: We often use the adverb <strong><em>ever <\/em><\/strong>to talk about experience up to the present:<\/p>\n<p>My last trip was the worst vacation I <strong>have ever had<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: and we use never for the negative form:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Have you<\/strong> <strong>ever<\/strong> <strong>met<\/strong>\u00a0Alice?<br \/>\nYes, but <strong>I\u2019ve never met<\/strong>\u00a0her husband.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>for something that happened in the past but is important at the time of speaking:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I can\u2019t get in the house. I<strong>\u2019ve lost<\/strong> my keys.<br \/>\nPeter isn\u2019t at home. I think he<strong>\u00a0has gone<\/strong> shopping.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0We use the present perfect of <strong><em>be<\/em><\/strong> when someone has <strong>gone <\/strong>to a place and <strong>returned<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A: Where <strong>have you been<\/strong>?<br \/>\nB: I\u2019ve <strong>just been out to the store<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A: <strong>Have you ever been to New York<\/strong>?<br \/>\nB: No, but <strong>I\u2019ve been<\/strong> to Las Vegas.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>But when someone <strong>has not returned <\/strong>we use <strong><em>have\/has gone<\/em><\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A: Where is Martha? I haven\u2019t seen her for weeks.<br \/>\nB: <strong>She&#8217;s gone to Spain<\/strong>\u00a0for a week. She\u2019ll be back tomorrow.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>We often use the present perfect with <strong>time adverbials <\/strong>which refer to the <strong>recent past<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 just; only just; recently<\/em><\/strong>;<\/p>\n<p>Scientists <strong>have recently discovered<\/strong> a cure for this type of illness.<br \/>\nMy cousins\u00a0<strong>have just gotten<\/strong> back from our trip.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>or adverbials which <strong>include the present<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 ever <\/em><\/strong>(in questions); <strong><em>so far<\/em><\/strong>; <strong><em>until now<\/em><\/strong>; <strong><em>up to now<\/em><\/strong>; <strong><em>yet<\/em><\/strong> (in questions and negatives)<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Have you <\/strong>ever<strong>\u00a0eaten<\/strong>\u00a0Indian food?<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Where have you been<\/strong> up to now?<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Have you finished<\/strong> your \u00a0project yet?<br \/>\nNo, so far I<strong>\u2019ve<\/strong> only <strong>done<\/strong>\u00a0half of it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Present \u00a0Perfect FORM : \u00a0has\/have + \u00a0past participle of the verb Use for something that started in the past and continues in the present: They\u2019ve known each other\u00a0for nearly twelve years.
