{"id":7760,"date":"2018-02-02T16:42:02","date_gmt":"2018-02-02T15:42:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/phoneenglish.es\/blog\/?p=7760"},"modified":"2021-10-11T09:26:38","modified_gmt":"2021-10-11T07:26:38","slug":"irregular-verbs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/phoneenglish.es\/blog\/2018\/02\/irregular-verbs\/","title":{"rendered":"Irregular Verbs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u2022 If a verb is irregular, the past simple and past participle do not end in \u2013ed.<\/p>\n<p>Example: The security guard foresaw the robber\u2019s intent to cause panic in the shop.<br \/>\n(Foresee-foresaw)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 All three forms (infinitive, past, participle) are the same with some verbs.<\/p>\n<p>Example: The government shut down our branch in Osaka last year.<br \/>\n(shut down &#8211; shut down- shut down)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Some irregular verbs have the same past and past participle forms but not the same infinitive form.<\/p>\n<p>Example: The CEO thought that Jeff\u2019s proposal was interesting.<br \/>\n(think &#8211; thought &#8211; thought)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 For other irregular verbs, all three forms are different.<\/p>\n<p>Example: Our Company underwent an unprecedented growth last year.<br \/>\n(undergo- underwent &#8211; undergone)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Some verbs can be regular or irregular.<\/p>\n<p>Example: He burned his hand while cooking.<br \/>\nShe burnt the eggs she was cooking.<\/p>\n<p>Burn-burned or burnt<\/p>\n<p>Spell-spelled or spelt<\/p>\n<p>Learn-learned or learnt<\/p>\n<p>Spill-spilled or spilt<\/p>\n<p>Smell-smelled or smelt<\/p>\n<p>Spoil-spoiled or spoilt<\/p>\n<p><strong>Irregular verbs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>bid-bid-bid<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-To submit a competitive proposal to buy or sell<br \/>\nproducts or services<\/p>\n<p><strong>hold on to &#8211; held on to &#8211; held on to<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-To keep in one\u2019s possession<\/p>\n<p><strong>undertake-undertook-undertaken<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-To accept a challenging\/difficult responsibility<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2022 If a verb is irregular, the past simple and past participle do not end in \u2013ed.
