We use possessive adjectives to demonstrate that someone or something owns something. We often use them when we talk about people. It is also mostly used in the sense of relationship more than ownership.<\/p>\n

Second<\/td>\nyours<\/td>\nyour<\/td>\nYour <\/strong>mother loves pasta.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Third (Female)<\/td>\nhers<\/td>\nher<\/td>\nHer <\/strong>bag is Prada.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Third (Male)<\/td>\nhis<\/td>\nhis<\/td>\nHis <\/strong>story is unbelievable.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

The possessive adjective should agree with the owner and not with the thing that is owned.<\/p>\n

Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n

My<\/strong> book is very thick.
\nHis<\/strong> girlfriend is very pretty.
\nOur<\/strong> cat is fat.
\nTheir<\/strong> clothes are in their suitcases.<\/p>\n

Possessive adjectives are always before the noun they modify.<\/p>\n

[Pattern: Possessive Adjective + Noun]<\/p>\n

An “S” should not be added to the adjective when it’s referring to a plural noun.<\/p>\n

Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Incorrect: Ours<\/strong> bags are heavy.
\nCorrect: Our<\/strong> bags are heavy.<\/p>\n

However, the verb has to agree with the noun. If it is a singular noun, the verb should be singular. If it is a plural noun then the verb is plural.<\/p>\n

Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n

My t-shirt is<\/strong> grey. (Singular)
\nMy t-shirts are<\/strong> grey. (Plural)<\/p>\n

Our dog is<\/strong> very well-trained. (Singular)
