Present perfect is used when the action continues from the past until now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Their baby <em><strong>has brought<\/strong><\/em> them so much joy ever since she was born.<br \/>\nThey <em><strong>haven&#8217;t woken up<\/strong><\/em> since they took a nap earlier this afternoon.<br \/>\n<em><strong>Have<\/strong> <\/em>you ever <em><strong>ridden<\/strong><\/em> a rollercoaster before?<\/p>\n<p>2. Another use of the present perfect tense is when talking about an action that continues up until now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I <em><strong>have met<\/strong><\/em> a lot of clients in the past week.<br \/>\nThey <em><strong>haven&#8217;t seen<\/strong><\/em> each other for ages.<br \/>\n<em><strong>Have<\/strong><\/em> you <em><strong>heard<\/strong> <\/em>from Mary yet?<\/p>\n<p>3. Present perfect is used with time expression such as <em>today, this morning, this year<\/em> etc. when during the time of speaking, these periods are not yet finished.<\/p>\n<p>Amelia\u00a0<em><strong>has studied<\/strong><\/em> very diligently this semester.<br \/>\nI <em><strong>haven&#8217;t taken<\/strong><\/em> my medicine today.<br \/>\n<em><strong>Have<\/strong><\/em> you <em><strong>gone<\/strong><\/em> on holiday this year (yet)?<\/p>\n<p>4. Present perfect is also used to say how many times something has happened.<\/p>\n<p>Kim is taking a diving lesson. It&#8217;s her first one.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s the first time she <em><strong>has dove<\/strong><\/em>. (<em>not dives<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>Michael has lost his keys again.<br \/>\nThis is not the first time this <em><strong>has happened<\/strong><\/em>. (<em>not happens<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>Frances is calling her clients again.<br \/>\nThat&#8217;s the fourth time she <em><strong>has called<\/strong> <\/em>them today.
