She&#8217;ll be home in 30 minutes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Please keep quiet. The students <strong>are taking<\/strong> their examination.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is also used to talk about definite future plans or arrangements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p>Katy <strong>is going<\/strong> to marry Walter next fall.<\/p>\n<p>What <strong>are<\/strong> you <strong>doing<\/strong> this weekend?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It can also be used to talk about temporary situations that are not necessarily happening now.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p>Lindsay <strong>is working<\/strong> in a restaurant until she finds a better opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>They <strong>are training <\/strong>for a marathon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Present continuous is used to talk about an action that is happening around a specific time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p>At three o\u2019clock, she <strong>is having<\/strong> a nap.<\/p>\n<p>When I get to home, my husband <strong>is waiting<\/strong> for me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Another use for present continuous is for temporary or new habits. Time expressions such as \u201cthese days\u201d or \u201cat the moment\u201d are commonly used in this case.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p>She<strong>\u2019s <\/strong>binge<strong> shopping<\/strong> these days. She must be really stressed out at work.<\/p>\n<p>John<strong> is running<\/strong> every single morning. He didn\u2019t used to do this.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is also used for habits that are not regularly done but happen very frequently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p>You<strong>\u2019re<\/strong> always <strong>forgetting<\/strong> our birthdays!<\/p>\n<p>She<strong>\u2019s<\/strong> normally <strong>stuttering <\/strong>when she is nervous.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It can also be used to talk about something which is new and is a contrast with the past state.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<p>Most children <strong>are playing<\/strong> video games instead of playing outside their homes.<\/p>\n<p><em>These days,\u00a0most people\u00a0<\/em><strong>are communicating <\/strong><strong>by chat instead of talking face-to-face<\/strong><em><strong>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is also used to talk about something that is changing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<p>The plants <strong>are growing<\/strong> so fast.<\/p>\n<p>Spain\u2019s economy <strong>is improving<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Another use of present continuous is to talk about something which happens repeatedly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p>It<strong>\u2019s<\/strong> always <strong>raining<\/strong> in Southeast Asian countries.<\/p>\n<p>His parents <strong>are<\/strong> constantly <strong>arguing<\/strong> about money.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s very pretty. She<strong>\u2019s<\/strong> always <strong>smiling<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>EXEMPTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Present Continuous cannot be used with <strong>stative verbs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<p>I agree with you. (I <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">am agreeing<\/span> with you.)<\/p>\n<p>This house belongs to his family now.
