1. What do you think of the idea of healthcare clowns? Elaborate.
I think this is a great initiative. It’s often said that being in a good mood can help treatments work more effectively—or at the very least, it can help you cope with the situation in a more positive way.

2. Do you think “Laughter is the best medicine.“? Why / Why not?
I don’t think the sentence “Laughter is the best medicine” is entirely true. Laughing can help people relieve symptoms (partly due to hormones like oxytocin that may be triggered by laughter) but it’s not enough on its own. You still need to follow the proper treatment to truly overcome an illness.

3. What helps reduce your stress or anxiety when you are or one of your loved ones is sick?
I think the worst part of getting ill is the uncertainty—there’s no medicine that can fight that, because we simply can’t see the future. In my opinion, the best way to reduce the anxiety this causes is by practicing meditation, putting your mind in a positive place, trusting your doctor, and trusting the process.

4. What other things could clowns do to help society?
Clowns could help reduce the stress of daily life. Performing gags in the streets could lift people’s moods and offer a moment of relief from their routines.

5. Do you think clowns are scary? Why / Why not?
I think films and books like IT by Stephen King have contributed to the idea of clowns being scary. Personally, I don’t really see how a clown can be frightening. Maybe for children, clowns can seem scary because they’re strange and hard to understand—but beyond that, I don’t find them frightening at all.

6. How has humor help you pass difficult situations in your life?
One of the places where the most jokes are made is the funeral home, and that’s because humor can truly help us cope with difficult situations. I believe the hormones involved are key to this effect.

I believe it is a great idea, especially for pediatric patients, because they could make people think in other things apart from their illness and have fun at least for a moment in their day. 2. Do you think “Laughter is the best medicine.“? Why / Why not? Yes, I totally agree that “Laughter is the best medicine” and not only for the body, as it reduces the level of stress, but for the mind. 3. What helps reduce your stress or anxiety when you are or one of your loved ones is sick? For me the best therapy is to make activities that let me disconnect. When one of my loved ones is sick I try to make him think in another things, for example telling him about the my last trip or how all is going with the people we have in common, etc.
4. What other things could clowns do to help society? I think clowns could help a lot to bring humor in some professional context that are a little bit serious, for example in team building sessions. In addition, it could be great in the school, to help children to laugh of themselves and leave insecurities, do not be so focused only in their mistakes and their weakness, laugh of them and focus on their strenghts.
5. Do you think clowns are scary? Why / Why not? Trully, I am not really fan of clowns. I don’t think they are scary but maybe they are not so funny for me, I don’t understand or enjoy their humor.
6. How has humor help you pass difficult situations in your life? For me humor is fundamental in my life. I remember once that I was really overwhelmed with final exams, and I was in the library study with one of my friends and we have a laughing fit when we realized that we have still a lot to do and we need to go outside because we were disturbing people, but for me was the best moment of the week.
