BRICS: The Rise of a New Global Order

B2 – Upper Intermediate

According to Wikipedia, the New World Order is a term often used in conspiracy theories which hypothesize a secretly emerging totalitarian world government.

The BRICS, originally a group of countries including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, has been growing economically and politically. Since its foundation, the intergovernmental organization has gained more members including Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.

The question in everyone’s mind is: Is the BRICS going to topple the Western-led institutions like The Group of Seven or G7? Until such time that they figure out their shared values and identity, can they really be considered a powerful global force?

Discussion
1. What are your insights on the formation of BRICS?
I think the creation of BRICS is a good idea because it gives developing countries more power and influence in global decisions. It allows them to work together and not depend so much on Western countries. However, it’s not easy for them to always agree because each country has its own goals and problems.
2.BRICS is growing fast and has a lot of potential, but I don’t think they are as strong or as organized as the G7 yet. The G7 countries are richer and have more stable economies.
3. I agree in some way. The trade war made BRICS countries think more about helping each other and depending less on the United States. But I don’t think it made them completely united. They still have different interests, so their solidarity is limited.
4.I think this idea makes sense because it would help BRICS countries have more independence and avoid being controlled by the dollar.
5.I think keeping Russia in BRICS shows that they want to be independent from the West. It’s a way to show support and cooperation between developing countries. However, it could also create some tension with other members that don’t always agree with Russia’s actions. Still, it fits BRICS’ idea of not following Western decisions.

You did a great work sharing your opinion about this topic. You wrote very excellent answers.

Here is just another way to express this sentence:

Still, it fits BRICS’ idea of not following Western decisions.

Still, it fits BRICS’ idea of not only act in accordance with Western decisions.

Keep up the good job!
