The Danger of a Single Story

Critical misunderstanding is the product of a single story. Our perception of someone or another culture can be from overlapping stories . Novelist Chimamanda Adichie narrates how she found her cultural voice and warns us of the danger of hearing only a single story about another person or country.

3. What do you know about the continent Africa? What countries in Africa have you been to?
4. What are some of the stereotypes of your country that you know of?

1. Cervantes, because of “Don Quijote de La Mancha”. I kwow Perez Reverte and Gloria Fuertes, they are also is very known in Spain.
2. “The Name of the Rose”, by Umberto Eco. “I, Claudius”, by Robert Graves. “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho.
3. I know little about Africa, only what I see on the TV. For example because of documentary films, I know something about the wildlife in Africa. Sometimes they also show the few tribes that still exist in Africa. However, I do not know nothing about the contemporary African society. I have never been in Africa.
4. Spanish people have the fame of being lazy people, that doesn’t want to work and do “siesta” all the time. I don’t feel identified with any of this.
