You would agree that you and I are guilty of forgetting things.  We hate to forget and technology nowadays make reminders very handy for us.  But how serious is the problem of forgetting things?

1. Dementia is when the brain stops working properly due to illness, old age, or injury.

2. People with dementia have difficulty remembering things. Their personality may change, and they lose the ability to perform many daily tasks.

3. According to institutions dedicated to mental illness, dementia could affect a large number of people in the near future, approximately 36 million people. Currently, there is no effective treatment to slow or stop dementia. Considering this information, it is urgent to invest more in scientific research to find a cure and, in the worst case scenario, medications that can maintain patients’ quality of life.

4. After researching the subject, it appears that in Portugal there are no public hospitals exclusively dedicated to Alzheimer’s. Public hospitals, through their neurology departments, provide the necessary support to patients. However, there are some private hospitals that have departments specializing in this disease.
In Spain, some public hospitals have specialized teams for these diseases.
