Graphic artist Yang Liu moved to Germany in 1990 when she was 13. Thirteen years later, she started an illustrated series to capture the differences that she observed between the Chinese and German culture.

1. the thing that surprise me the most is the one where the person consider himself less than others. Self steem is lower than in germany, that is sad. another one is how loud they are in China, and how low and plain in germany. Spanish are more like chinese….very loud.
2. The spanish are more like the chinese, at least here in Andalusia. They are loud, messy and they are not direct, just like the chinese. MAybe in MAdrid they are more like the german: organized, respectful , ordered. Spain is a mixture of different cultures.
3. Yes, it is. I think if you arrive to a new place, you have to adapt. You don’t expect they’ll change for you.
4. The thing surprised me the most in Andalusia: how loud they are in restaurants, the food (it is very difficult to find a japanese restaurant for example, they eat they’re food!), the close minded they are, classism – high society here is very close – not open to new friends or members.
5. I find Japanese culture very interesting. Some day I would like to go and be there for a month or so.
