1. What is your opinion about meeting potential romantic partners virtually?
– At first I was against because I thought it was very superficial and you really didn’t know who you were meeting. Afterwards, I slightly changed my opinion and now I think it is a good way of meeting new people if you are an introvert or have difficulties in meeting people in real life. It procures you a way of talking to someone without the anxiousness of the beginning.
2. Would you ever use an online dating service? Why or why not?
– I have used one in the past and it helped me to open up to others, get out of my comfort zone and be more relaxed when meeting someone new. It did not work for me, but I have a couple of friends who met their partner using online services, so who knows, you can find someone important for you there.
3. Is online dating common in your country? Why or why not?
– It is more common with each passing day. In the past people were more afraid of what could be on the other side of the screen. However, with the fast development of technologies, people are now more used to see things and talk with people from all around the world. That is why I thing people are more open up to online dating.
4. What are the good things and bad things about online dating?
– As I said, some of the good things are that allows you to open up more easily to the other person in case you are more introvert in person. Also, you can find people near you that maybe in other circumstances you wouldn’t ever met.
On the other hand, I think that you don’t totally ever met a person after you have met him in real life and see how you two interact with each other. Another thing that I don’t like about online dating is that you can enter in an endless loop of frustration if you don’t find what you are looking for and can sometimes diminish your self-esteem if you don’t know how to manage your feelings with usual situations like ghosting and finishing contact without any reason.
5. Talk about some online dating experiences you’ve had/stories you’ve heard about.
– Thankfully I haven’t had any extremely bad story during my time using online dating, even though I have found weird people or people that only wanted one thing and never see you again. However, I have heard about lots of cases where people where scamed or catfished with photos of other people. With catfish you can’t do anything except do a previous search into the internet and see If it gives you trust or not. But with scams, I can’t understand how people would give money or personal info to persons they haven’t met in person or they barley now them. I think it can be a really dangerous tool if not used correctly, so we better have our eyes open.
