1. It should be treated with both. As I learned on the video, mental illnesses can be very difficult to heal. The problem is that when your mind is broken, you need it to overcome the illness by the use of psychotherapy, so it could be a dead end. However, with medicines, you can temporarily return your mind to an stable state, in which you can tackle the roots of your mind illness with the help of psychotherapy.
2. It can, as many other minor problems of the mind, such as stress or anxiety. For example, stress could stiff you muscles due to the tension that it provokes, maintained on time. Anxiety could make you feel pain in the chest, as if the air could not flow inside and hurts you from inside. It can also make you heart or other organs to fail. All of these problems can be very amplified by depression.
3. I think that meditation and relaxation are key for preventing these problems. Through meditation we can “disconnect” from our current lives and watch them as a spectator, that can evaluate the situation and provide useful feedback to our lives. Usual exercise is also a good way of releasing tension and maintain our body in a healthy way. We need to care both, our minds and our body to be balanced, as told by the old latin proverb ‘mens sana in corpora sano’.
4. I think so. I do not know much but I suppose that if one or more ‘critical’ organs are failing, it can cause you a disorder on the substances that are in your body, like hormones, proteins, oxygen and so on. These disorders can affect you mind, the more known are hormone related problems, that can even change you personality. All in all, the brain is another organ that need optimal conditions to function properly.
