Discussion Questions:
1. What is the Reid technique? Have you applied it in a personal situation?
It’s a interrogation technique developed by the proffesor and polligraft expert John E. Reid base in some steps:
First Step: confront the suspect with the facts
Second Step: Theme development that basically is create a leifmotiv an story that can explain the motivation and causes to behave like that.
In this process is important to be calm, be aware of the interrogated behaviour, try to understand their motivation but be straightforward, firm and create a kind of trustworthiness in you… and doing again and again until obtain the confession
2. In your own opinion, how effective is this technique?
I suppose is effective because is widespread use in all over the world. But for my perspective maybe is not very useful with repeat criminal, neither with very well-trained army people, etc.
.
3. What is the difference between ‘interrogation’ and ‘interview’?
Completely different, a interview is typically a fact-finding process because the interrogator need to know more, in the case of the interrogation you try to get a confession of the alleged criminal… and you haver already almost of data and information needed.
4. What is the difference between ‘objection’ and ‘denial’?
Objection is the act of expressing or feeling opposition to or dislike of something or someone while denial is simply saying that something is not true or does not exist. Thy are two completely different attitudes, if the interrogated became a denial mood you will probably have a lot of difficulties to obtain a confession.
5. Talk about a situation where you had to get the truth out of another person.
Well sometimes in a relationship with your couple or with your friends you want to know more information about something, but luckily nothing serious to go to a Interrogation Room… 😉
