C2 – Proficient
Some elements of science fiction are turning into science facts. Case in point, the use of machines that have humanoid form to do tasks too risky for their Homo sapiens counterparts is slowly but steadily changing operations in various industries.
One such robot is SAFFiR. Read about this firefighting mechanical wonder and watch the video as well.

1. Describe the robotic firefighter.
The robotic firefighter is a full-on humanoid robot designed to move like humans. It can walk on two legs, climb ladders, and even crawl through tight spaces if needed. It can use the same firefighter tools, but it also has unique tricks like special firefighter grenades that are super effective against fires in small spaces. Additionally, it can maintain its balance even on a ship that goes through heavy seas.
2. What might be its pros and cons?
The pros of this technology are obvious: it doesn’t put human lives in danger, provides a more efficient way of doing maintenance, and the capabilities of a robot are higher in a situation of fire.
The cons are basically that the battery power only lasts for 30 minutes.
3. How do you feel about robots saving human lives in dangerous situations?
I would be great to see this technology in the future, and it would let us avoid risking human lives.
4. Do you think robots would do a better job than human beings in search and rescue operations? Elaborate.
I think that robots would be superior to humans in search and rescue operations due to the capabilities they have. For example, they can lift more weight, run faster, be stronger, and not die in extreme situations.
5. Why do you think some robots are engineered to resemble humans physically?
Basically, because the world we’ve built is adapted for humans, and in order to operate correctly in that world, robots must be like humans.
6. Should we dread or look forward to the further rise of the machines? Explain.
I think that we should be cautious, as this technology, like any other, can be used for evil, and we must prevent the possibility of this use.

1. Describe the robotic firefighter.
SAFFiR – Shipboard Autonomous Firefighting Robot is a bipedal, humanoid robot designed to help researchers evaluate the applications of unmanned systems in damage control and inspections aboard naval vessels.
2. What might be its pros and cons?
Pros: Enhanced Safety, Efficiency and Autonomy: SAFFiR’s autonomous capabilities allow it to function without constant human supervision, freeing up personnel for other critical tasks.
Cons: Technical Limitations, Cost, Dependence on Technology
3. How do you feel about robots saving human lives in dangerous situations?
Robots saving human lives in dangerous situations is an incredible advancement in technology. These robots can be deployed in environments that are too hazardous for humans, such as disaster zones, deep-sea explorations, or even space missions.
4. Do you think robots would do a better job than human beings in search and rescue operations? Elaborate.
Yes. For rescue operations after natural disasters, robots can navigate to locate survivors, providing critical assistance. In hazardous industrial settings, robots can handle dangerous materials or perform tasks in extreme conditions, ensuring the safety of human workers.
5. Why do you think some robots are engineered to resemble humans physically?
Human-like robots can make interactions more intuitive and comfortable for humans.
6. Should we dread or look forward to the further rise of the machines? Explain.
there are challenges to address, but the rise of machines holds great promise for improving safety, efficiency, and quality of life. It is essential to approach this advancement with a balanced perspective, considering both the benefits and the potential drawbacks.

Take a look at some minor changes you can make in this sentence:
Keep up the great job.
1. How do you feel about robots saving human lives in dangerous situations?
I think it would be a very good idea, since you avoid human errors and possible loss of life.
2. Do you think robots would do a better job than human beings in search and rescue operations?
I think so, many times due to emotions the right decisions have not been made so I think a robot could do a better job.
3. Why do you think some robots are engineered to resemble humans physically?
I think it makes us feel more comfortable if we talk to an AI that looks like us.
4. Do you dread or look forward to the further rise of the machines?
Not really, I think there are other more important technologies for us to develop such as clean and renewable energy or discovering more sustainable ways to dispose of waste.
Keep at it. You’re doing a good job improving your writing skills.

Well done practicing your writing!
1. How do you feel about robots saving human lives in dangerous situations?
I thinks it´s another amazing use of tech! Would definitely go for it.
2. Do you think robots would do a better job than human beings in search and rescue operations?
Well, even though they can resolve autonomous tasks as the article says, i don´t think they will be able to fully replace the human criteria for decision making, but at the same time reggarding for example tasks of strength or resistance to extreme conditions, they will obviously perform better.
3. Why do you think some robots are engineered to resemble humans physically?
Maybe because those are the shapes we know and are most used to?
4. Do you dread or look forward to the further rise of the machines?
Definitely looking forward!
