Siesta. It can’t get more Spanish than that. If sushi is to Japan, then siesta is to Spain. Although part of the Spanish culture, a radical proposal to end the practice has been raised.

1. Is taking a siesta necessary in the workplace?
After have lunch I think is very good to have a little nap 10 o 20m in order to have a rest, recover energy and be more efficient. I think it is natural. The problem is that is impossible if you are not at home…
2. How do you feel about the proposal in the article?
It’s an out-of-date article, it was written in April 2016 before the pandemic, and regarding the workday conditions everything has changed for the better. I mean, we have remote working, more flexibility, virtual meetings, it is not necessary to travel to have a meeting abroad, etc…
3. What is your opinion on lessening the working hours for Spanish workers?
I think is not the idea of the article, the proposal in fact is simply to change the schedule of the workday by reducing the lunch time from two hours to one hour in order to be able to go back home earlier and have a better work life balance.
4. How would you describe an ideal working schedule?
50% remote working, 8h a day from Monday to Friday with 1h to have lunch, 5h on Friday’s… and flexible star time and flexible time to leave work.
