Every workplace needs rules. They discourage employees from coming to work late, getting drunk at their desks, and most importantly, are intended to ensure efficiency. However, a lot of companies have rules that frustrate employees because they sometimes cross the line into ridiculousness.

I agree with all the items listed. I’ve worked in companies with that kind of rules and people were stressed, under pressure all the time and this was one of the most important cause in turn over of employees. Brilliant and talented people deserve better than being slotted into some bureaucratic ten-point scale once a year.

Rules for hiring, rules for performance reviews and rankings, rules for onsite attendance, rules for onsite attendance, rules for onsite attendance, rules for frequent flyer miles and rules for frequent flyer miles.

In the most basic sense, the benefits of rules and regulations in business are that they protect the company and employees. Following rules and regulations help employees understand what is expected of them and what will happen if they violate the rules. Therefore, rules are a beneficial tool to guide and monitor the interactions between the members of the company (in this case). But the most important thing is to avoid the dumb rules.
