I think it is more complex than it seems. Success in life (for me) means being happy with myself and with the activities that I do, it doesn´t matter if I earn a lot or few money. Success is to have a balance between your different activities or parts of your life, it is: the family, the job, the money, the healthy, your body, etc., etc. So, be good at school or not don´t warranty the success in life, but of course that it helps. At school the people learn a lot of things that in some time of our lives could help to do or enhance what we are doing.
