There is a commonly held view that eating disorders are a lifestyle choice. Eating disorders are considered serious illnesses that can affect a person’s eating behaviors. Some people, mostly young girls, go too far with their aspiration to become slim.

1. Causes can be different genetic factors, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and the need for control or perfectionism can lead to an obsession with weight, food, and appearance. Social and cultural pressure to meet certain beauty standards (such as thinness) significantly influences, especially in young people.
2. It is a responsibility of society, Education and Awareness, Sensitization Campaigns, Reinforcing Diversity in the Media, Promoting Self-Acceptance, Nutritional Support, Access to Specialized Treatment, etc…
3.This stigma arises from misinformation, prejudice and misperception of the nature of eating disorders, the consequences of all of which are family blaming, social isolation, feelings of shame and guilt, distrust of health professionals, misinformation and difficulty in recognizing the problem.
4. A combination of personal, family, social, cultural and system factors.

1. The main cause is the pressure of the society to be thin, keeping thin as synonim of beautiful and successful. They affect people with eating disorders very negatively because those people feel like they need to lose weight to be accepted by the society.
2. In my opinion, it is difficult to prevent because we would need to change the mentality of the society but I would start with the education from the families and school and then would extend to government/health system measures. People suffering those disorders should be able to seek for help and to have support from multidisciplinary teams such as psychologists, nurses, doctors.
3. Unfortunately, tt is seen as shameful such as mental diseases and other illnesses. As a consequence, they are silenced and many people do not get the support they need with the consequent damage of their health.
4. It is difficult to point out only one responsible. In my opinion, it is something very linked to the education and the society in general.
5. To save lives, to improve the heath of people already suffering these disorders and to raise awareness among the population.
