The Interview

B2 – Upper Intermediate

Oftentimes, we are faced with the challenge of working with a person or a group with totally opposing views or personalities whether at work or in other circumstances in life. This may cause tension and perhaps also a lot of pressure, but it may also be the push that some need to work or perform better. Working alone sounds like a great idea, but you also have to be flexible to work in pairs or teams should need arises.

1) What does it mean to be a team player? What are the qualities of a good team player?
A person is a good player when he or she perform well working with other people, and the result of their work is better working together than it would be if one of them had worked alone. I think the most important qualities in a team player are active listening and cooperation.
2) Does your department have team projects? How does each member contribute? How does the leader manage the team?
We often work in team projects, and as we have different capacities we contribute with our strengths. For example, one colleague is the best in analysis, so he does that job, and other is the best in research, so that person is assigned to that task. The leader guide the team in order to reach the goal, trying to find a balance between all the members and motivate them to do the best.
3) How does your company support employees’ leveling up on skills and knowledge?
We have training in the skills that are important for our work.
4) What soft skills do you want to hone?
I would like to improve in all the skills, I used to regard to people that are good professionals in order to learn from them. But if I have to choose one skill that I’m not specially good at, this is creativity.
5) How do you ace an interview?
I think that is important to show as you really are, be honest, and show real interest for the position that you are applying for. Is good to know as much as you can about the company, focus on the aspects that are interesting for the interviewer and for you. I think that the interviewee should avoid a prepared corseted speech.
6) What are the skills needed to be a good interviewer?
To be a good interviewer you need to be a good listener, to observe and detect when someone is not telling a truth, and to be able to make the interviewee to talk about what you want and not let him or her talk about what he or she had prepared a closed speech.
7) Share some of your memorable interview experiences.
I haven´t being interviewed for about twenty years so I don’t remember how were my experiences ha ha ha…

You have definitely put in a lot of efforts into writing all your responses. Kudos to you!

See how you can improve this sentence a bit:

I haven´t being interviewed for about twenty years so I don’t remember how were my experiences ha ha ha…

I haven´t been on any job interviews for about twenty years now, so I don’t remember how my experiences then were anymore.

Cheers to more entries from you!
